William L Freeman

William Lee “Bill” Freeman, 79, passed from this life at his home on County Road 6, Florence, Monday, January 16, 2017, after a ten month battle with lung cancer and kidney disease.

Bill was the only child of the late William Allen Freeman and Melissa Jane Bratcher of Lauderdale County, and a graduate of Central High School. He married West Point, Tennessee native and Sheffield High graduate Mary Lynn Blair in 1965.

For eleven years Bill served in the US Army National Guard. He worked for forty years as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service.

He served as bus and youth minister at Salem Church of Christ and a deacon at Chisholm Hills Church of Christ. For over twenty years he has been an active member of the Magnolia Church of Christ.

Bill’s hobbies included Alabama football, NASCAR, professional wrestling, community theater and family genealogy.

Bill is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lynn and two sons, Lee and William, as well as several Freeman and Bratcher cousins.

Visitation will be from 10 am to 12 pm Saturday, January 21, at the Magnolia Church of Christ on Vulcan Avenue, Florence, with the funeral service at 12 pm. The service will be conducted by Joe Van Dyke, Jimmy Hayes, and Billy Warren. Burial will be in the Pisgah Methodist Church Cemetery, Cloverdale.

Pallbearers will be: Phil Garner, Glendon Townsend, Fred Starkey, Maro Ruiz, Billy Heupel, David Dean.                                                                                      Honorary pall-bearers  Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Cooper, Carter Reid, Bob Wode, Hugh Walker, Joe Hackworth
