Norma Doris Ferguson, 86, of Florence, passed away July 27, 2017. The family moved to Florence in the summer of 1971. Mom began a job at ECM Hospital working for Mr. R.C. Barnes. She created a nursing program for the area. Mom secured all the funding through grants and developed the curriculum for the nursing program for Northwest Shoals Community College in Phil Campbell. It started as an LPN program and changed to an RN program a few years later. She later went to work as the Assistant Dean for the School of Nursing at UNA.
Visitation will be Monday, July 31, 2017 from 10-12 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Robert Sparkman officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenview Memorial Park Love Mausoleum.
Mrs. Ferguson is survived by her daughters, Linda Bisbee of Englewood, CO, Susan Smith of Columbia, TN, and Barbara Jean Grant of Fort Worth, TX; brother, Grant Tait of Sykesville, MD; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
