Welcome to the memorial page for

Jim Marsh, Sr.

August 26, 1928 ~ August 15, 2016 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Jim Marsh, 87, passed away Aug. 15, 2016, after a brief illness. Jim was born in Florence and lived most of his adult life in Florence. After graduating from Coffee High School, Jim attended and graduated from Alabama Polytechnic Institute, now Auburn University, in 1953 where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity.

Jim was a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded a Bronze Star for Valor. He was a longtime member of Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ. He was always an avid outdoorsman; he often hunted, fished, and camped. Jim shared his knowledge of the outdoors by volunteering as a Boy Scout leader. He loved playing tennis with his friends and was quite the competitor. Jim was an accomplished wood carver. He loved spending time working in his shop on projects. Jim’s grandchildren could often be found working on school projects in the shop with his help. He was usually the first person they called for help when the project involved building something out of wood. After retiring from TVA, Jim enjoyed fishing with his wife, Barbara. He was truthful when he told friends and family that he was just there to operate the boat, because Barbara would always catch more fish than he did.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara Jean Marsh; parents, Malcolm and Louise Marsh; brother, Bill Marsh; son, Jimmy Marsh; and granddaughter, Claudia Marsh.

He is survived by his brother, Buck Marsh (Wanda); his daughter, Becky Marsh; his sons, Fred Marsh (Marianne) and Tom Marsh; grandchildren, Jamy Marsh, Logan Marsh, Hannah Marsh, and David Marsh; daughter-in-law, Debbie Marsh; and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home today from 7 until 8 p.m. A graveside service with Dr. Kenny Barfield officiating will be held on Aug. 19, at 10 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with military honors.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at stations three and six at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Center for their kind care of Jim during his illness.
