Gerald E Murphy

Gerald E. Murphy, 86, of Florence, passed away March 24, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He worked for Gray’s Concrete (Southern Ready Mix) for 47 years. Gerald spent his summers raising a garden. He especially enjoyed growing peas for all his family and friends. Most recently he enjoyed watching the honey bee hives in his front yard.

Visitation will be Friday, March 27, 2015 from 2 – 4 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Donnie McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Moomaw Murphy; parents, Roscoe and Lula Murphy; four brothers, and four sisters.

He is survived by his son, Joel (Malinda) Murphy; grandchildren, Justin (Canzady) Murphy, Eric Murphy, Hannah (Drew) Womble; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Kinzlee Murphy; special niece, Melva Shepherd and son Keith; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers will be Justin Murphy, Eric Murphy, Drew Womble, Derryl Murphy, Keith Shepherd, and Mark Grisham.

Honorary pallbearer will be Ralph Parker.
