Wylodean "Dean" (Jones) McDaniel

Wylodean “Dean” Jones McDaniel was born on November 6, 1935.  Dean went to be with the Lord on May 29, 2023 after an extended illness. She is survived by her faithful and loving husband, Gene McDaniel of 69 years, who diligently cared for her until the end of her life.  In her earlier years, she loved to travel and explore with her husband.  She was an excellent seamstress, a wonderful cook, and gardener—she always had a green thumb, growing the most beautiful flowers and garden.  She was a member of Florence Boulevard Church of Christ, and she retired from Martin’s Family Clothing, where everyone loved her.

 She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances Eva and Albert Jesse Jones, sister Reba Thompson (Hollis), and brother Marvin (Theda) Jones.  She is also survived by her children Desiree South (Jerry) of Florence, Alabama, and Sonya Miller (Dan) of Peachtree Corners, Georgia; one brother, Galon (Nell) Jones of Atlanta, Georgia; three grandchildren, Clint South (Toni), Ashley Murray (Eliot), and Chrissy Moorer (Tyler); five great-grandchildren, Harris Murray, Chandler Murray, Dean Murray, Carter Moorer, and Ava Moorer; step grandson, Brian Knipper; step great-grandson, Coleton Knipper; several loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Greenview Memorial on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 12:00 pm-2:00 pm, with a service immediately following in the Chapel at 2:00 pm. The burial will be held at Tri Cities Memorial Cemetery.   Officiating the service will be Austin Johnson, Sonny Owens, and Donnie McDaniel. The pallbearers are Dr. Clint South, grandson, nephews, Keith McDaniel, Kevin McDaniel, David McDaniel, Dewayne Ringlestein, and Scotty Butler.  Honorary pallbearers are Tyler Moorer, Eliot Murray, Coleton Knipper, Charles Hester, Doyce Wade, and Skipper Thomas.

The family would like to give a special thanks to her wonderful caregiver and friend, Linda Jaynes and North Alabama Hospice, namely Lindsey Rideout, Michelle Cooper, and Matt Flannagin.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to The Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
