William Johnson “WJ” Hall, 93, of Florence, passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025. He was born January 14,1932. He was a devoted husband to Maxine, a loving daddy to Johnny and Pam, a beloved “Pawpaw” to his grandkids and great grandkids, and “BossMan” to many throughout the community.
WJ was a veteran of the Korean War where he was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery. After his military service, WJ returned to Alabama where he farmed, worked at Robbins Tire and Rubber, and Reynolds Metal before beginning a logging business with his son. WJ continued to cut timber until he was 86 years old. He was a proud member of the American Legion. WJ made the best decision of his life when he was baptized in 1954 by Charles Coil. He has been a faithful member of Hendrix Chapel Church of Christ. He was one of the first elders and has served till his death.
Mr. Hall was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Maxine Foster Hall; son Johnny Hall; parents, Howard and Lessie Myrick Hall; siblings, Herman Hall (Billie), Nannie Dell McCurry (Eb), and brothers-in-law, Arlon Rhodes and Grady Hanback.
He is survived by daughter, Pam Wright (Tom); grandchildren, Anthony Hall (Tasha), Samantha Perkins (Wes), Madelyn Crosby (Scott) and Levi Wright (Brittany); great grandchildren, Cody and Kensie Hall, Ayden, Max, Levi and Mason Perkins, Everett and Eleanor Wright, and Brooks, Edy, and Sam Crosby; sisters, Bobbie Rhodes and Carolyn Hanback; and several nieces, nephews, friends, and his cherished Hendrix Chapel church family.
Pallbearers will be Cody Hall, Max, Levi and Mason Perkins, Tim Rhodes, Austin Garner, Tony Page, Josh Miles and Blake Lawson. Honorary pallbearers will be Ayden Perkins, Brooks and Sam Crosby, Everett Wright, Wes Hamilton, Thomas McClure, nephews and men of Hendrix Chapel.
The family would like to thank Leah and Katelyn of Gentiva Hospice, Visiting Angels’ sitters, Ms. Marie, Margaret and Dai for their care of WJ. Special thanks to Momma Sue, Drusilla, Chuck and Eric for their loving care of “Pawpaw”. The family would also like to express sincere thanks for all the visits, cards, calls, food and, most of all, the prayers during WJ’s sickness and death.
A visitation will be from 3-7 p.m. at Hendrix Chapel Church of Christ on Saturday, October 25, 2025. Funeral service will be at the church on Sunday at 1 p.m. Wayne Wood and Nolan Burns will be officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
