William Douglas Ramsey, 88, of Florence, passed away peacefully January 6, 2025, at his residence with his loved ones by his side. He was a member of Chisholm Hills Church of Christ. He was lovingly referred to as “pappy and paw paw”, a devoted and caring husband, father, father in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He especially enjoyed helping volunteer at ECM up until the conversion to NAMC. He enjoyed telling his stories of traveling the states in his profession. He loved his country music and Alabama Football. Most of all he loved his family and made sure he prayed for each and every one of them. He will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Friday, January 17, 2025, from 10-11 a. m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 11 a. m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his parents, Buford and Mary Ramsey; wife Tess R. Ramsey, baby sister, Elizabeth and sister, Sarah Staggs Hollowell; and grandson, Justin Ramsey.
He is survived by his son, Eddie Ramsey (Susan) of Killen; daughter, Leigh Simmons of Muscle Shoals; grandsons, Tyler Ramsey of Killen, Chandler Simmons (Sara Grace) of Leighton, Ramsey Simmons of Muscle Shoals; great-grandchildren, Carly, Madison, Noah of Boca Raton, Florida, and Stella Jane and Betty Lou of Leighton; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Active pallbearers will include: Jeremy Utley, Brock Utley, Todd Nix, David Ringlestein, and Gary Utley.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. Ramsey’s grandsons.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Dr. Robert Mann, to the wonderful staff at Florence Nursing and Rehab Center, Center Well Home Health, Gentiva Hospice, especially Jean-Marie, Angela, Danita, Haley, Sheila, Christy, Denise and Jennifer R. who took wonderful care of Mr. Ramsey. Beth for the love and care you showed during our father's sickness. To the sitters who were his fabulous four; Gloria, Jennifer, Melissa and Liz, thank you.
