Wilbert Salter, 85 of Florence, passed away Saturday, July 19, 2025 at North Alabama Medical Center. He was a faithful member at Woodmont Baptist Church. He retired as superintendent with the City of Florence Water Department after 41 years. Afterward, he served as a starter and ambassador at Havana Golf Course in The Villages, FL, a front desk attendant at Sun City Peachtree in Griffin, GA, and an associate in the hardware department at Walmart in Florence, AL. He worked on several mission teams including Southern Baptist Disaster Relief, Campers on Mission, Sager Brown Campus (United Methodist Committee on Relief), and Habitat for Humanity. He was loved by all who met him and will be dearly missed.
Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, 2025, from 10-11:00 a.m. at Woodmont Baptist Church with the memorial service immediately following. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. Chad Hess. Burial will follow at Moulton Memory Gardens in Moulton, AL.
Mr. Salter was preceded in death by his parents, D. G. and Jewel Salter; brothers, James Salter and Benny Ray Salter; and daughter, Shelia Richie.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Ellen Goodlett Salter; sons, Mike Richie (Sherry) and David Linkins; daughters, Sharon Hyde, Angie Richie, Gina Salter Duboise (Rick), and Lisa Linkins Cink (Stewart); grandchildren, Samantha Bolden, Scott Scoggin, Ben Richie, Erin Willingham, Michael Simpson, Janie Hall, Levi Hall, Jake Hall, Josh Hall, Aspen Linkins, Peter Linkins, Connor Cink, and Reagan Cink; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
