Virginia “Gin” Lee West, 91, of Florence, passed away September 18, 2023. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Church where she sang in the choir for many years; she was also a member of Knit Wits and Senior Saints.
Virginia grew up in the Central community. After attending Florence State College for two years, she moved to Washington D.C. and worked for the FBI. There she met Stanley D. West and he became the love of her life. They married on Valentine’s Day in 1955 and they were married 52 years. Stanley was in the Air Force and they traveled extensively. They lived in Morocco, Lybia and Italy and then returned to the states and lived in Michigan, Mississippi, and Colorado. When Stanley retired, they moved to Florence, AL.
Virginia was very active and loved many things. She enjoyed bowling, synchronized swimming, water skiing, playing games, especially cards, cross stitching, and she was an excellent cook. She loved and cared for her family as long as she was able.
Visitation will be Monday, September 25, 2023 from 11-1 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Church. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. at the church with Pastor Chris Weldon officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
