Robert Lloyd "Bob" Townsend

Robert Lloyd (Bob) Townsend was born July 6, 1931 in Florence and departed this life March 21, 2016.  Visitation for Mr. Townsend will be from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. with the funeral services immediately following at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday March 24, 2016 at North Wood United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Coats, pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Greenview Memorial Park, directed by Greenview Funeral Home.

            He attended Gilbert Elementary, Appleby Junior High, and Coffee High School ('49), Florence State (UNA) and was graduated from Auburn ('53) with a degree in electrical engineering (power option).

            He was a life-long member of North Wood United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men's Bible Class and later the Good Shepherd Class. 

            He retired from Reynolds Metals Company as an electrical engineer and supervisor.  In retirement he enjoyed playing golf and reading.

            He was predeceased by his parents John Franklin Orlando  and Bernice Elizabeth Quigley Townsend, one sister Sarah Frances Townsend, brothers John Orlando (J. O.) and William Allen Townsend.

            He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marie Bassham Townsend, daughters Anna Cabaniss and husband Howard of Muscle Shoals, their children Chad Cabaniss and his wife Khristina and Amanda Cabaniss and Claire Townsend Vest and her husband David and daughters Rachael Gadd and Morgan Vest of Brentwood, Tennessee and Caitlin Vest of Valdosta Georgia.  He is survived by one great grandson, Cole Austin Cabaniss.

            Pallbearers will be Howard Cabaniss, Chad Cabaniss, David Vest, Earl Bassham, Kenny Bosheers, and Ed Yeilding.
