Richard "Rick" Wayne Shoults

Richard “Rick” Wayne Shoults of Florence went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 16, 2025, following a brief illness.  Rick was loved by all who knew him, and he will be missed greatly.  He was a faithful member of the Wood Avenue Church of Christ in Florence.

Rick was born in Louisville, Kentucky on August 25, 1948, to Robert A. and Julia H. Shoults.  Following several family moves between Kentucky, Alabama, and California, the family finally settled in Cullman, Alabama, where Rick grew up.  After graduating from Cullman High School, Rick went on to earn his degree in Interior Design at the University of Alabama in the spring of 1973.  He was also a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity at UA.  Rick worked in interior design and home furnishings sales in Birmingham for several years, but eventually found himself honing his sales talents in the office furniture industry with Bevis Custom Table, ABCO Office Furniture, Jami, Inc., and the JSJ Furniture Corporation after their acquisition of Jami, Inc.  Rick retired from his National Sales Manager role with JSJ in December 2012. 

Rick loved Alabama football (Roll Tide Rick!!!), he loved telling stories and making people laugh, and most importantly, he loved his church family at Wood Avenue.  Rick renewed his commitment to Christ on November 12, 2019, by being baptized for the remission of his sins and made the Wood Avenue church of Christ his home congregation.  He became very active in the work there and cherished the relationships he was able to develop during his last few years.  Best of all, he was very thankful that the Lord provided him time to find his way back to the church and for the blessings he received as a result. 

A memorial celebration will take place in honor of Rick on Sunday, October 26, 2025, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM at the Wood Avenue Church of Christ.
