Peggy Price Obituary

Peggy Reeder Price of Florence passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026, at the age of 96. A private graveside service will be held on January 31, 2026, at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.

Peggy was born in Franklin County, Alabama. She lived the remainder of her life in Lauderdale County after her family moved to the Central community when she was a child. Peggy was a graduate of Central High School and Florence State Teachers College.

After her marriage to James Edward (Chicken) Price in 1951, Peggy worked at TVA in the PDW plant. Later, with her two children in school and having graduated with a teaching degree, Peggy began a 25-year career teaching at Weeden School in Florence. She retired from education in 1992.

As a long time member of North Wood United Methodist Church, Peggy served as a Sunday School teacher for many years.  In retirement Peggy enjoyed buying and selling antiques as well as traveling far and wide with Chick. They took many bus tours traveling across America and enjoyed a trip to Europe highlighted by a visit to Paris. Being staunch Bama fans Peggy and Chick made many trips to Tuscaloosa in support of the Crimson Tide.

Peggy is survived by her daughter Wynn Price Lewey and her husband Mike of Florence, granddaughter Corinne Lewey Barger and her husband Isaac, and great granddaughter Reagan Wynn Beck of Little Rock, AR, daughter-in-law Liz Price and grandson William Price of Atlanta and granddaughter Gracie Price of Tuscaloosa.

In addition, Peggy is survived by nephew Jimmy Austin and wife Margaret of Sheffield, nephew Jamey Austin of Sheffield and his children Nolan and Jill, nephew Bryan Austin and wife Jenny of Madison, niece Kristie Austin Martin of Sheffield, and niece Katie Hanback and husband Bronson, and their sons Brocton and Brecken of St. Florian.

Preceding Peggy in death was her husband James Edward Price, son Robert Reeder Price, sister Bobbie Reeder Austin, brother-in-law James Edward Austin, and her parents Linden and Marvinee Reeder.

Wynn wants to thank the staff of Mitchell- Hollingsworth for their love and care of her mother while she was a resident and patient there. Special thanks are extended to Brian Scheri, to Station 2 and Station 3.
