Mattie Sue (Abramson) Behel

Ms. Mattie Sue Abramson Behel, 82, of Florence, died on October 9, 2024, at North Alabama Medical Center after a brief illness. She was a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County. She attended Central High School and worked for many years at various branches of the 1st National Bank of Florence until retiring in 1999. She was an active member of Petersville Church of Christ. She loved Auburn football, Kenny Rogers, and her Finnish heritage. 

A visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 am on Saturday October 12, 2024 at Greenview Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. Officiating will be Sonny Owens.

Ms. Behel was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Behel; son, Samuel Behel; parents, Emmett and Ina (Paulk) Abramson; and brother, Rudy Abramson. She is survived by her children, Jay (David Goroff) of Wilmette, Illinois and Benjamin of Florence; grandchildren, Eli and Miriam Goroff-Behel; and nieces and nephews. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Danny McFall, Dr. Felix Morris, Dr. Kevin Leon at UAB, and the doctors and nurses at North Alabama Medical Center and Cypress Cove Nursing Home.
