Matthew Brady Trapp Obituary

Matthew Brady Trapp was born at Colbert County Hospital on June 12, 1975, the firstborn son of William Timothy and Laura Elaine Trapp.  He was the first of three boys to be born to Bill and Laura.

His very early years were spent in Sheffield where he dearly loved riding his Big Wheel in the York Terrace Baptist Church parking lot, where his dad was pastor. In 1979 the family moved to Azle, Texas where his dad took a new pastorate near Fort Worth. There he had a wild and wooly Texas childhood, and he often referred to those years as some of his happiest. In between being a normal rowdy boy, he was also a star student and model son.

At the age of 12, in the middle of his 6th grade year, his family moved back to Florence, Alabama for his dad to a pursue a new pastorate at Woodmont Baptist Church. He went through Forest Hills School and eventually graduated from Bradshaw High.

He received a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of North Alabama. After graduation Brady was quickly promoted to Manager of a local credit union.

With time he realized a desk job with suit and tie was not his cup of tea, so he left and walked on to a construction site, with no skills, only a long-held love of "building things." He had always had a natural gift for "assembling things," since childhood, so he walked on that site and said "Put me to work!". His first job there was carrying boards from point A to point B!

But, with lots of hard work and some amazing mentors, he became a Master Carpenter, amazing his fellow builders with his skills. There was no one with more attention to detail or tighter fitting joints, and every angle was carefully mathematically calculated. He was a perfectionist, an amazing craftsman who became known for his beautiful spiral staircases, and also for his unique skills of restoring the original woodwork in old historic homes.

Brady married and has two sons, who were the one true joy of his life.   He is survived by his sons, Landon Trapp and Reid Trapp, ex-wife Charity Rutherford, his brothers Brian and Brett Trapp, and his mother, Laura Trapp Rodich. He was preceded in death by his father, William Timothy "Brother Bill" Trapp, and also his grandparents, Lloyd and Opal Trapp and Golson and Virginia Boyette.

Brady will be dearly, dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.  We will forever remember all of the good times, his brutally quick wit, and the times he made us laugh until our sides hurt.

A visitation will be at Woodmont Baptist Church on Tuesday July 22, 2025 from 12:00-2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow with Bro. Larry Wright and Bro. Chad Hess officiating.

Go with God, dear Brady. Go with God.
