Linda Marc Clemmons was born November 13, 1950 to Dr. Lowell Henry Clemmons and Frances Clemmons (née Blair). She grew up in Cullman, Alabama and enjoyed piano, horses, swimming and diving as a child. She graduated from Cullman High School in 1969. Set on following in her father’s footsteps, Linda was interested in—and devoted to—the practice of medicine from a young age. She earned her LPN and worked with her father in his medical practice. She tried for years to get into medical school before finally gaining acceptance. Well into her thirties and with two young children (Cynthia and Laura), she earned her MD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Medicine in 1991, completed her residency at the University of Alabama at Huntsville, and practiced family medicine and obstetrics in Scottsboro where she lived until 2002. In 2002, Linda decided to move outside of Alabama for the first time and took up residence in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. There she experienced real snow for the first time and learned that one must have their walkway shoveled if they want to be able to leave the house. She practiced family medicine and obstetrics in Colorado, where she met Chris Barnes whom she married in 2004. In 2005, they made their way back to Alabama, this time to Florence where she opened Florence Family Practice in 2009 and practiced medicine until just weeks before she passed.
Linda was a lover of nature, fine dining, live music, and a good time. She was a fantastic cook and an incredible physician. Linda and Chris were able to visit one of her favorite places, Sedona Arizona one last time this summer.
Linda is survived by her daughters, Laura Clemons and Cynthia Peacock (Forrest); grandson Brooks; husband Chris Barnes and his children Orion Barnes and Amber Barnes, and grandchildren Cameron Higgins, Cael Barnes, Ryelin Barnes, and Ashlyn Barnes; her brothers, Terry Clemmons, Dr. Hank Clemmons, Tim Clemmons and Dr. Sam Clemmons; and a host of nieces and nephews. Linda is preceded in death by her parents Lowell and Frances Clemmons, brother Philip Sr. (Patsy) Clemmons, sister Jane (Pete) Misegades, and stepson Shiloh Barnes.
