John "Jay" J. Kirby, III

John Joseph “Jay” Kirby, III, 80, of Muscle Shoals, passed away on January 20, 2019 at Helen Keller Hospital.  He was born in Norwich, NY on December 28, 1938, being the eldest of three children. He met Helene Ann Smith Kirby on a blind date at West Point (United States Military Academy) while both were in college. They were married on June 16, 1962.  Also in 1962, he graduated from West Point (United States Military Academy) and he was a decorated combat veteran of the United States Army, having retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after serving 23 years.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 24, 2019 from 10 -11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church. A mass of Christian burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on January 24, 2019 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father John O’Donnell O.S.B. officiating.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Joseph Kirby, II and Virginia Grace Dunn; wife, Helene Ann Kirby; daughter, Grace Elizabeth Kirby.

Survivors include his sons, John “Sean” Joseph Kirby, IV and Timothy G. Kirby (Lucy); daughter, Virginia Marit Klein (Troy); brothers, Bill Kirby and Tom Fiori; sister, Judy Gallagher; grandchildren, Stephen, Michael, Alex, Kaylie, Kayleb, Ashley, Jeremy, Jamie and Lauren; and great-grandchild, Brynlee.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
