He was preceded in death by Ann Wilkes, his wife of forty years, his mother Julia Berry and father Rufus Wilkes. Jackson and Ann were members of First Freewill Baptist Church.

Mr. Wilkes is survived by his brother, Grant Wilkes; children John Wilkes Jr., Donna Wilkes Bogran (Ron), and Paula Wilkes Fuller; step-son, Billy Cummings (Marilyn) and step-daughter, Mitzi Underwood (Tony).

He is also survived by ten grandchildren who called him Papa, Sean Bogran, Morgan Fuller White, Alexis Huggins, Blake Fuller, Tyler Underwood, Nathan Cummings, Nikki Woods, Kayla Cummings, Cheyenne Blackstock, Dana Coburn, and seven great-grandchildren; two nephews, David Wilkes and Jason Wilkes; and niece, Lya Chowning.

Jackson retired as a Superintendent from Craig Construction company where he worked for over 35 years. He served as a volunteer for the Underwood/Petersville Fire Department for over 10 years.

During the day you could find Jackson mowing lawns or bush hogging all of the local fields. In his leisure time he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, eating lunch at senior citizen centers, and dancing on Tuesday nights at the Florence Senior Citizen center.

Pallbearers will be David Wilkes, Paul Pounders, Paul Haralson, and Tinker Boyd. Joe Maxwell and Bradley Maxwell from the UPVFD.

A special thanks from the family is extended to Dr. Brody, the nurses, and staff at Clearview Cancer Center for the love and care they provided to Jackson for over three years, along with Dr. Jason Wilkes and Alexis Huggins for serving as Jackson’s personal medical staff after hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Russel Hill Cancer foundation.
