Janet Gail Stevenson

Janet Gail Stevenson, 73, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Nadene Jones; brother, Bill Jones, and sister-in-law, Lana Jones.

Gail was born and lived in Florence, AL. A proud graduate of the Mars Hill Bible School class of 1969. She went on to graduate from Florence State University and spent much of her career teaching 3rd grade at Mars Hill. Passionate about teaching, she significantly impacted students and treasured time with colleagues.

She is survived by her lifetime love and husband of 53 years, Rod Stevenson; daughters, Heather Coleman (Ronnie) and Paige Stevenson (Bobby Zollinger); “Gigi” to Bailey and Riley Coleman; brothers, Glen Jones (Joyce) and Keith Jones; step-mother, Mary Hazel Jones; brothers-in-law, Kenny Stevenson (Darlene), Mark Stevenson (Veda); sister-in-law, Vicki Hovater (John); niece, Tara Harper (Jordan); nephews, William Jones (Sidney), Michael Jones (Michelle Contreras), Steven Hovater (Kelly), Michael Hovater (Martha), Jeremi Vo (Emma); extended family from the Jones', Flippo's, Stevenson's and her favorite 4-legged nephew - Charlie.

Gail was an active member of Cross Point Church of Christ. Her church family held a special place in her heart. Gail treated all of her friendships as an extension of her family.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Lyman Mitchell, Alice Carter, Andrea Glover, her team on the 5th floor, and Dr. John Stewart for the loving, kind care you have shown Gail.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, from 9:00 am-11:00 am at Greenview Memorial Funeral Home with services to follow. Steven Hovater and Frank Mills will help us in leading the services in honor of Gail. Pallbearers will be family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to: Friends of the Library, Mars Hill Elementary School, or Esther Flippo Hunt Memorial Scholarship Fund at NWSCC.
