James Vinson McCranie

James V. McCranie, 59, passed away unexpectedly, August 9, 2023.  He was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle and a great friend.

Jim was very proud of his service to our country in the Marine Corps.  He was President/CEO of Visionary Legal Software, which he started because of his love of computers.  He also created Good News Network, a website that broadcast the Gospel worldwide for over 20 years.  Jim was a faithful member of Chisholm Hills Church of Christ.

In his free time, he enjoyed working in the garden and puttering in his workshop while listening to his space odyssey audio books.  Go Skippy!

He is preceded in death by his mother, Rita Dear.

Jim is survived by his heartbroken wife, Starla; brother Bob, Dallas, TX, father Angus James McCranie, Jr., Statesboro, GA; sister-in-law, Nancy McDaniel (Steven), Florence; brothers-in-law, Joseph Smith (Ruth) and John D. Smith, both of Nashville, TN; nephew, Destin McDaniel, Florence; nieces, Jessica Whited (Keven), Florence, Meredith Smith, Nashville, TN, and God-daughter, Mary Grace Icolano, Athens, AL.

The visitation will be Monday, August 14, 2023, at Chisholm Hills Church of Christ, from 12:30-2:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church.  The burial will be at Greenview Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Destin McDaniel, Paul Young, Alex Wofford, Chris Talley, Valor Hyde and Noble Hyde.

Honorary pallbearers are Col. Rae Atencio, David Willis, and Bill Gooch.
