James William Cook, 80, of Florence Alabama, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2026, at home surrounded by his family.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 11, 2026, from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral Home.
He devoted his life to God, family, and his community. He was a lifelong resident of Florence and member of Florence Jaycee’s. He also played softball with them and for Florence City.
He started his first job with Southern Bell in 1964. Then, he went to South Central Bell/Bellsouth and then AT&T. He then started his own business which was Cooks Communications. He put in communications for places such as Lauderdale County Court House, EMA, and the Solid Waste Department.
During his life he shared it with Elaine Wright Cook of 64 years. The love of his life. James loved hunting, and fishing in Waterloo. He also loved spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, William Presley and Ollie Cook, brother, Danny Cook; sisters, Glenda Dison and Wanda Cook.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine Wright Cook; daughter, Michelle Cook Berry and son-in-law, Vince Berry; grandchildren, Russell and Zack Hamm (Rachel) ,Erika Berry, Chapin Cook (Ross), and Wilson Cook (Melody); great grandchildren, Kylee, Logan, Liam, Caden and Maisey; brother-in-law, George Jr. Dison; nephews, Alan Dison (Jennifer) and Bradley, Brandon, and Tyler Cook; niece, Melinda Dison; and numerous great nieces and nephews.
