James "Barney" Barnhart

James “Barney” Barnhart, 85, passed from this life on June 6, 2024 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.  He was born November 15, 1938 to James Clifford and Elizabeth Jewell Fields Barnhart.  A visitation will be Wednesday, June 12, 2024, from 1-3 pm at Greenview Funeral Home.  An entombment will follow in the Love Mausoleum.

“Barney” loved playing baseball and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan.  He served as Labor Leader for Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union, as Commissioner of Labor for the State of Alabama, and as a member of the Florence City Council.

Mr. Barnhart was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Peggy Barnhart; brother Charles Barnhart.

He is survived by his daughters, Fonda Barnhart, Tabra McGill; his son, Jason Marshall (Jessica); brother, Roland Barnhart (Nancy); grandchildren, James Futrell, Molly Turner, Rhett Gamlin, Amelia Marshall, and Blake Marshall.
