Hattie Heupel

Mrs. Hattie Heupel, 87 of Athens, Alabama formerly of Florence passed away Friday, October 13th 2023 at her daughter’s residence. She was a member of Jacksonburg Church of Christ. Hattie and her late husband, Buddy Heupel owned and operated Heupel Sanitation for over 30 years. After selling their business to Gist Sanitation, she continued to work for Gist Sanitation and at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, October 18th from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Church of Christ Cemetery. Officiating will be Chaplain Tony Johnson.

She is preceded in death by husband, Buddy Heupel, parents, Otha and Eliza Collier, 2 sons, Tony and Danny Heupel, brother, Joe Collier and two sisters, Elizabeth Balentine Nix and Linda Cummings.

She is survived by two daughters, Ellen Phillips (Mike) and Sharon Behel (Michael), three sisters, Emma Jean Stowe, Marie Hargett, and Becky Burnette, four grandchildren, Tabitha Bassett (Gabe), Nicholas Behel (Maria), Brandon Phillips (Heather), and Chase Behel (Whitney), and 9 great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Randy Cummings, Ricky Balentine, Jeff Trousdale, Gabe Bassett, Brandon Phillips, and Chase Behel.

Nicholas Behel will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Family would like to express their sincere thanks and appreciation to all the doctors, nurses, hospital staff, Hospice of North Alabama, family and friends who have helped with her excellent care.
