Gloria Brown Obituary

Gloria June Peters Brown, 94, went home to be with her husband on Saturday August 31, 2024. She was born in Michigan on June 5, 1930 to Paul Edwards Peters and Grace Isabella Beach. She moved to Alabama as a youngster following her father's employment with Reynolds Metals Company.

She was a graduate of Coffee High School and attended Florence State College where she met the love of her life, Ford Malcom Brown. They were married in 1950 and shared 64 happy years together.

Ford and Gloria were well known throughout the southern states for their expertise in the fashion industry. Ford was the number one salesman in the district for several years and Gloria was his "right hand". She could tell so many funny stories about their experiences in the fashion business. This classy lady was still the "chick of fashion" at the age of 94. She got her hair and nails done every Saturday. Before leaving the house, she had to be 100% color coordinated from head to toe. One day she left home wearing one black shoe and one navy. Traffic had to stop so she could return home to change shoes.

Gloria was a supporter of local clubs such as The Pierian Study Club and the Garden Club. She was a long-term volunteer at the Florence Lauderdale Public Library Bookstore. She would buy large print books and return them for resale to support the bookstore. She provided calendars, magazines, notepads and greeting cards for the bookstore. Her hand sewn bookmarks were also available.

She was a crafty lady also, providing flower vases for nursing homes, magazine Christmas trees for special friends and making more than 60 cushions for her Sunday school class.

A graveside service will be held at Greenview Memorial Park on Wednesday September 4, 2024 at 11:00 am.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers, William Marshall II and Neil Irvin Peters.

She is survived by son Steven Ford Brown and daughter Stephanie Brown Jacobson. Also to cherish her memory are special nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
