Glenn David Austin Obituary

Glenn David Austin entered Heaven December 9, 2025, at the age of 92. Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home, Saturday, December 13, 2025, accepting family at 8:30 am, visitation 9:00 am until 11:00 am, with service to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will also be at Greenview Cemetery following the service. Brother Kevin Johnson to officiate. Glenn was the youngest of eight children born to Bryan and Chester Austin of the Threets Community in Lauderdale County.

Glenn was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen; sons, Michael (infant) and Glenn David Jr.; parents, Bryan and Chester Austin; brothers, E.J. (infant), Eugene, James, and Floyd; sisters, Earline Marks, Pauline Simmons, and Mary Lee Melton.

Survivors include son, Bryan Austin (Marcia); Susan Nix (Alan); 5 grandchildren, Brad Austin (Katie), Katie Rinks (Layne), Michael Austin (Katie), Ashlee Chunn (Wesley), and Anna Sanders (Blake); 12 (soon to be 13) great-grandchildren, Lillie, Cameron, William, Harper, Hallie, Hazel, Hannah, Norah, Emmie, Anders, Reid and Ames; companion and caregiver, Anne McMillian; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenn gave his life to the Lord at the age of 11 at Liberty Baptist Church, where he attended for many years. He graduated from Central High School and went on to serve his country during the Korean War. After returning, he was employed by the City of Florence Electricity Department for 41 years. At the time of his retirement, he was serving as supervisor of technical services. He also served on the Board of the Florence Municipal Credit Union and the Supervisory Committee of Electrical Workers Credit Union. Glenn was a proud member of the IBEW Local 558 for over 65 years, and a member of the American Legion. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church of Florence.

Glenn loved spending time at his family cabin at Sunset Beach with relatives and friends. He enjoyed fun with jet skis and four-wheelers. He also loved country music, dancing, old cars, old trucks, and old tractors.

Glenn was a loving father, husband, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved his family, his country, and his church. Glenn once said, "It's not easy for me to understand how God can take just an average man like myself and give him so many blessings".

Pallbearers include Brad Austin, Harry Austin, Jimmy Austin, Michael Austin, Wesley Chunn, Jim Hillhouse, Layne Rinks, and Blake Sanders; Honorary pallbearers include Steve Melton and Tommy Simmons.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Florence or the Shylee Smiles Foundation.
