George Elbert Sisson Jr, 93, passed to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 16, 2020, while at his home in Decatur, Alabama. He will be remembered as a loving father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. A native of Haleyville, Alabama, George was born to George Sr and Beaulah Sisson on June 19, 1927. He was a graduate of Haleyville High School and a proud Navy Veteran who served in WWII. George married the love of his life on December 1, 1950, and spent 69 wonderful years with Marilyn (Peggy) Sisson (Wesley). Their lives together took them from Haleyville, Alabama, to Georgia for several years before returning to Alabama and settling in the Shoals, where they would raise their two boys. He retired from Reynolds Metals Company and enjoyed working on his pristine yard and beautiful flowers.
George is survived by his wife, sister Patsy (Jimmy) Knight; son, Charles (Connie) Sisson; grandchildren Kelli (Chad) Nichols, Brooke Sisson (Alayna Mason), Natalie (Brynn) Moakley, Allison (Nate) Cunningham, and Andrew Sisson; great-grandchildren Cameron, Asher, and Deacon Nichols; Ian Sisson and Bella McCarley, Kenzie and Hayley Mason; Maliea Rochester, Lilly and Brooklyn Faulkner; Casen, Beckett, and Vivian Cunningham; as well as a number of loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son George (Buddy) Sisson III; parents; brothers Rogers Sisson and Harold Sisson; sisters Mildred Sisson Bates, Dorothy Sisson Benton, and Beverly Sisson Taylor.
A memorial service will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, Florence, at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 19, with US Navy Colonel Dick Cantrell officiating. Pallbearers are Nate Cunningham, Rick England, Chad and Cameron Nichols, and Ian Sisson.
The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Hospice of the Valley and Breanna Jones for their loving care.
