Flora Ellen (Burgess) Goodman

Flora Ellen Burgess Goodman was born July 11, 1932, in Lauderdale County, Alabama.  She departed this life on August 23, 2024.  She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Pearl Burgess; her husband, Leon Goodman; her son. Jeff Goodman, and nine brothers and sisters.  She is survived by her son, Steve Goodman and his wife, Julia; her grandchild, A. C. Goodman; and a sister, Jean Starkey.

Flora was employed as secretary to the principal at Mars Hill Bible School from 1967 till 1994.  After retiring, she volunteered at ECM Hospital and was active in the benevolence ministry at Chisholm Hills Church of Christ.

She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, and mother.  She was a faithful Christian, a skilled secretary, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a friend and neighbor to many.

The family would like to thank the folks at Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Home and particularly those who helped care for Flora on Station 5; Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ for providing church services on site and visits; Chisholm Hills Church of Christ for their outreach; and the staff of Preferred Hospice for providing additional care in the closing days of Flora’s life.

The family will receive visitors at Greenview Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. to 12 noon.  A funeral service will follow at 12 noon in the funeral chapel.  Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be her son, Steve Goodman.
