Eula Levon Darby Obituary

Eula Levon Darby went to be with Jesus on January 18, 2026, surrounded by the children and grandchildren who adored her. Born on August 18, 1934, to Clyde and Eula May in Florence, Alabama, Levon spent her entire life in the Florence area—rooted in the community she loved and that loved her back.

She married the love of her life, Eldridge “Pete” Grady Darby of Cypress Inn, Tennessee, and together they raised two daughters, Debra Darby and Sherry Griffith, who remained the center of her world. Many knew Levon from her years at Winn-Dixie, where she worked until retirement—though truth be told, just as many knew her simply because she never met a stranger. Levon was the kind of woman who would stop, talk, and leave every person she met feeling seen and cared for.

Levon’s greatest joy was her family. She was the heart and matriarch of a large, multigenerational family—loving, guiding, and supporting everyone who called her Mom, Mamaw, Aunt Levon, or friend. Her influence stretched across generations, shaping her kids, grandkids, great‑grandkids, and even great‑great‑grandkids with her steady love, strength, and faith.

A visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Wednesday January 21, 2026 from 10:00-11:00 am. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Sonny Owens officiating.

She leaves behind her daughters, Debra Darby of Florence and Sherry Griffith (Andy) of Florence; her sister, Linda Mitchell (Wayne) of Tennessee; and her grandchildren, Timothy Parker (Meldy) of Tennessee, Casey Goodwin (Chad) of Colorado, Justin Terry of Alabama, and Taylor Austin (Brian) of Alabama. Levon is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, her beloved husband Pete “Papaw” Darby, and her great-great-grandchild Skye Grace.

Pallbearers will be Chad Goodwin, Andy Griffith, Terry Oakley, DeWayne Oakley, Chad Oakley, and Steve Darby.

Levon was truly the matriarch of the family—the anchor, the comfort, the storyteller, and the steady source of love. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion. God blessed us with 91 wonderful years of her love and care, and while our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice knowing we will see her again in eternity.

She will be missed more than words can express.
