Dorothy was born on June 15, 1937, in Van Buren County, TN, the daughter of the late Howard Lee and Tabitha Hollingsworth. She graduated from Van Buren County High School in 1955. She then graduated from Tennessee Tech in 1958. On August 15 of that same year, she married the love of her life, Carl Madewell. They shared 66 wonderful years and two sons. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend.
Dorothy has been an active member of Woodmont Baptist Church since 1968. Her teaching career consisted of 23 years at the North Alabama Skills Center, but her primary career was her family. She had two sons of whom she was very proud, Alan and Jared. She valued excellence in her family as much as she valued it in her students, leaving behind a legacy of engineering excellence in her sons and granddaughter Darby. She loved traveling and was able to visit many incredible places with her husband and friends. A lover of all games, you could often find her playing cards with her family and her bridge group.
In addition to her husband of 66 years, Dorothy is survived by her two sons, Alan (Margaret) Madewell and Jared (Nancy) Madewell, her granddaughter Darby Madewell, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald (“Don”) Hollingsworth, and her parents, Howard Lee and Tabitha Hollingsworth.
In place of flowers, donations can be made to the Woodmont Baptist Church Mission Dolls Program.
