Charles Eugene Burchell

Charles Eugene Burchell, 72, of Florence, passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.  He had a 37 year career as a Florence firefighter, retiring in 2011 as a Battalion Chief.  He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt deer and turkey, a great gardener, a fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, and could generally be found piddling with a project in his shop.  Above all, he was a loving husband, dad, pawpaw, and friend.

He was a member of Underwood Baptist Church and Florence Lodge #14.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sharon Burchell; his sons, Charlie Burchell (Sommer) and Adam Burchell (Ashley); his grandchildren, Bentlee Burchell, Emree Burchell, Wales Burchell, Adley Burchell, Ellynn Burchell, and Liles Burchell; his sister, Sherry Cox; sister-in-law, Jackie Burchell; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lady Ruth Burbank and William E. (Bill) Burchell, Jr., his stepfather, James Ralph Burbank; his brother, William E. (Chip) Burchell, III; and his stepsister, Sue Hill.

Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. Entombment will be in Greenview Memorial Park, Love Mausoleum. Officiating will be Bro. Donnie McDaniel.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Bevis, Hermon Graham, Ray Willis, Jimmy Dale Black, Ricky Rideout, Ronnie Young, Mickey Wilson, Tucker Buchanan, and the Florence Fire Department.

Pallbearers will be Andy Abston, Tyler Abston, Justin Hayes, John McDaniel, Darian Rhodes and Jarrod Barrier.
