Bobby Smith

To know Bob Smith was a pleasure. He always met you with a kind smile and witty word.

Bobby “Bob” Howard Smith, 92 years old, from Muscle Shoals, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, from metastatic lung cancer. He peacefully died in his home, surrounded by his loving family.

Bob Smith was born on February 24, 1933, in Colbert County, Alabama. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly seventy years, Mary Wright Smith; his children, Howard Smith (Lisa) and Penni Smith Clos (Paul); grandchildren Mallie Froehlich; Ashley, Austin, and Audra Clos; and great-grandchildren Lucille, Paul, and Bobby Florence (due on April 24th).

When Bob was 18 years old, he enlisted with the U.S. Marine Corps, serving with distinguishment in Korea, receiving a purple heart. After returning from his deployment, he completed his education and apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. He excelled in this so much that he started Smith Metal Co. & Southern Mechanical, eventually retiring from that success.

Among his illustrious hobbies and interests was collecting rogue golf balls from the adjacent golf course in his backyard. He shared many hobbies with his wife, Mary. They never missed watching a college football game together and always supported their favorite team, Alabama. In their younger years they traveled in their motor homes, never missing an opportunity to run new and exciting trails together.

Bob was a member of First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, Alabama. 

His memorial service will be held at Greenview Memorial Chapel at 12:00 pm on Wednesday April 23, 2025. Pastor Barrett Long of First Baptist Church, Tuscumbia, a dear friend of Bob’s, will be officiating the service. Friends are welcome for visitation from 10am till 12:00 pm.

Pallbearers will be Howard F. Smith, Austin Clos, Cristian Lasagna, and Richard “Dick” Smith.

Honorary pallbearers are Paul G. Clos, Billy J. “Pete” Smith, William A. “Bill” Holder, and Howard Foust.

The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff at Amedisys Healthcare & Amedisys Hospice.  Flower arrangements will be graciously accepted at Greenview Memorial Chapel at 3657 Old Chisholm Road, Florence, Alabama.
