Betty Norton Darby died peacefully and gracefully in her sleep on September 13, 2025. She was born on November 7, 1939, and was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, James Daniel Darby; her parents, Dr. Ethelbert Brinkley and Laura Rosalind Norton; and her brother, Elbert McCain Norton.
She is survived by her children, Clifford Daniel Darby (Kathryn) of Richmond, Virginia; Mary Ann Darby Howard of Macon, Georgia; and John Patrick Darby (Caroline) of Mountain Brook, Alabama; her grandchildren, Patrick Roberts Darby (Kate), Margaret Olivia Howard, Helen Catherine Darby, and John Thomas Darby; her great-grandson Henry Roberts Darby; and her brother, E.B. Norton, Jr.
After raising her children, Betty earned a degree from the University of North Alabama and taught a generation of students in the Florence City School System, then enjoyed a long retirement with her beloved Jimmy on their farm. She was blessed with a glorious life of dedication and service to her family and her students.
The family gathered for a private graveside service on September 19, 2025, Rev. Dale Cohen of First United Methodist Church officiating.
