Barbara Gail (Richey) Butler

Barbara Gail Richey Butler passed away at her home peacefully September 9, 2025 after an extended illness.

A visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Sunday September 14, 2025 from 1:00-2:00 pm. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with her beloved nephew, Mark Martin of Gatlinburg officiating.

Barbara grew up in Florence, Alabama attending and finding her love for Jesus at Central Baptist Church for most of her life. She sang in the choir and sang many solos and trios including a performance at the 1962 World’s Fair with the trio with Dale Evans. She later joined Faith Church-Florence. Barbara loved traveling and going to dinner with her true love Jim. Her favorite place to travel was to the Smoky Mountains to visit her best friend/sister, Ruth and her family. Barbara retired from Walmart where she made many loved and life-long friends. Though she loved many and was loved by so many friends, her greatest friend was her sister Ruth. They loved and supported each other until the day Barbara went to heaven. They could talk on the phone for hours, sing hymns together, and reminisce about the good old days!

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband James Butler; father, William D. Richey; mother, Willie Mae Richey; and brother, Lucian A. Richey.

She also leaves behind her sister, Margaret Ruth Richey of Gatlinburg; four children, Lisa Butler, Laura Brown, Greg Butler (Penny), and Heather Wilkinson; grandchildren, Amanda McCann (Ronnie), Allen Broadfoot (Natasha), Melissa Knight (Brian), Jessica Sharp (Matt), Chris Dean, Brittany Potter (Wes), Kelly Tucker (Preston), and Chris Brown (Morgan); and sixteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the gentle and loving staff of Gentiva Hospice, especially Emma Franks and to the nurses on the 4th, 5th, and ICU floors of NAMC along with the nurses at The Summit Rehabilitation.
