Arthur Wayne Newbern (“Wayne”), age 75, of Florence, Alabama, was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on Monday, November 10, 2025, following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Florence, Alabama, on Friday, November 14, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service.
Wayne was born in Gideon, Missouri, to Hugh Richardson and Elizabeth Newbern but early on was adopted by Elton Newbern. He was preceded in death by his siblings Sheila Richardson, Judy Newbern, and Sharon Wright (Richard). He is survived by his brothers Garry Newbern (Melissa) and David Newbern; his aunt Jeanette Soehn (Richard); his daughter Rebecca Dixon (Will); and his grandson Peyton James, and many nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his longtime companion, Cathy Johnson, along with her children Jennifer (Gil), Jeremiah (Emily), and Callie, and eight grandchildren who dearly loved him.
Wayne faithfully served at St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he found great joy in ministering to the sick and homebound by bringing them Holy Communion. He was a friend to many through his Bojangles breakfast crew, mall walking group, and his church community.
A hardworking and dedicated man, Wayne was employed with Tarkett in maintenance for 45 years before his retirement. In his leisure, he enjoyed fellowship, football (especially cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide) and spending time with family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Cerebral Palsy research or St. Joseph’s college campus ministry in Wayne’s honor.
