William R. Simmons, Sr., born in 1932, in Russellville, AL passed away September 19, 2018. He lived most of his life in Florence, AL. He was a graduate of Coffee High School; attended Florence State College; and was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He served on the Aircraft Carrier (FDR) and air bases state side. He was a past pilot in the Civil Air Patrol; an active member of St. James Methodist Church; a former supervisor of Stylon Corp.; retired from IMC Fertilizer, Inc.; worked part-time with NACOLG; and was a long-time member of RSVP. His hobbies were golf and flying. His most important accomplishment was his family and the time spent making memories with them.
Visitation will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Dean Bowers officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his father, W.T. (Bill) Simmons; mother, Willie Simmons; and sister, Betty Welch.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Helen; son, William R. (Billy) Simmons (Harolene); daughters, Ladonna Mansell, and Sabrina Whitten (Jeff); seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Active pallbearers will include: Jeff Whitten, Adam Simmons, Justin Whitten, Luke Mansell, Will Mansell, Ty Long, Russ Robbins, and Kevin Darby.
Lloyd Darby, David Darby, and Joe Darby will serve as honorary pallbearers.
