Michael Gerry Nale

October 2, 1948 ~ May 10, 2017 (age 68) 68 Years Old

Michael Gerry Nale ended his courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday, May 10th, 2017 at his home surrounded by friends and loving family. Mike was born the second of three children to the late Leon Orbin Nale (Chief) and Dorothy Danley Nale on October 2nd, 1948.

Mike is survived by his wife, Phyllis Bugg Nale and his children: Suzanne Catania (Todd), Kane Nale (Heather), and Emily Simons (Rich). Stepsons: Brandon and Devin Briley. A brother, Leon Nale Jr. (Lana) and a sister, Jan Nale Hannah (Scotty). Grandchildren: Thomas and Annie Taylor Catania, Brianna and Preston Nale, Tyler, Madi, and Evelyn Simons and one surviving uncle, Jerry Danley.

Mike was a true hero. He served with the 173rd Airborne Brigade as an infantry paratrooper and cross-trained as a combat medic. He fought bravely in the most brutal battles of the Vietnam War. He was awarded two purple hearts and was awaiting his third. Following his military career, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years where he was known to many as “Pup” or “Mailman Mike.” Mike was a member of the American Legion, The Patriot Guard, VFW, The Postal Worker Union, Florence Masonic Lodge #14, a charter member of the Shoals Valley Scottish Rite, and a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cheryl Middleton and Alacare Home Health (Christy) and Hospice (Suzann) for their compassionate care for Mike and love for the family.

Serving as pallbearers will be Thomas Catania, Todd Catania, Rich Simmons, Luke Hannah, Scotty Hannah, JD Jackson, Devin Briley and Bobby Bugg.

Tyler Simons and Preston Nale will serve as honorary pallbearers. 

Visitation will be held at Greenview Memorial on Friday, May 12th from 5:00-7:00pm. The funeral will be held at North Wood Methodist Church at 11:00am, on Saturday, May 13, 2017 with graveside to follow at Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens.
