Harl Gifford Rich

Harl Gifford Rich, of Florence, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at the age of 84. He was originally from Cypress Inn, Tennessee and moved to Florence after marrying. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and had retired from Reynolds Metals Company. He loved life and people. All children loved him at first sight. He loved talking to everyone about life on the farm with his brothers and sisters, his army experiences, and his work time at Reynolds (nickname was Maters). He was always working around the house and enjoyed it greatly. He could do anything from repairing cars, plumbing, electrical, farming, carpentry, and welding. He loved camping and fishing with his family while his children were young. He was a devoted husband and in his children’s eyes he was the best dad God ever put on earth. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored him.

Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2017 from 11-1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Phillip Clemons officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Mr. Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Gerdie Rich; two sisters; four brothers; a grandson; and a granddaughter.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley Rich; son, Terry Rich; daughters, Sandra Aytug (Sal), Renee Rich, Michele Horne (Gerald), and Dawn Griffin (Chris); six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons: Evan and Ethan Horne, and sons-in-law, Gerald Horne and Chris Griffin, and neighbor, Bud Norwood.
