George W. "GW" Box, Jr.

George W. Box, Jr. “GW”, 86, of Muscle Shoals, passed away March 18, 2019. He was a member of York Terrace Baptist Church; Masonic Lodge #503 in Sheffield; American Legion of Decatur; Moose Lodge #39 of Norfolk, VA; 20 years in Civil Service after serving 21 years in the U.S. Navy. He was also a member of the Decatur VFW and a 1950 graduate of Sheffield High School.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 23, 2019 from 1-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother Rodney Shewbart officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Mr. Box is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joanne Box of Muscle Shoals; son, George “Rhett” Box of Daytona, FL; daughters, Teresa Vellines of Muscle Shoals, and Anna “Lisa” Simpler of Sheffield; grandchildren, Tina Butler of Middleburg, FL, Shawn Vellines of Virginia Beach, VA, Blake Duhamel of Muscle Shoals, Adam Box of Norfolk, VA, and Brandi Love of Sheffield; and 11 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
