Fred Emory Orton, Jr. went to be with the Lord, his Savior, on December 28th, 2017 joining his mother and father; brother, Jackie; and son, George.
Fred was born on April 29th, 1940 to Fred Emory Orton and Sadie Bishop Orton in Huntsville, Alabama. He was the oldest brother of Jimmy Orton, Jackie Orton, William Orton and Janet Orton Thomas.
Fred was married to his faithful and caring wife, Linda Graham Orton for 55 years on June 9, 1962. Fred attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. He was the proud father of 3 sons John Graham Orton of Charlotte, NC, Paul Emory Orton, of Florence, Alabama and George Bishop Orton. He was continually asked “where was “Ringo”? He had two daughters-in-law, Allison Potter Orton and Joy Orton. Fred had five grandchildren – Ahbee Orton, Daniel Orton, Patrick Orton, Elizabeth Orton, and Sarah Orton.
Fred was a graduate of Coffee High School in Florence, Alabama and attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama.
In his professional life, Fred was a career salesman and was known by his nickname “Slick”. Fred sold everything from television production equipment to truck parts. He loved being a salesman and being on the road. Fred was always thinking of new businesses and ideas. He successfully started a business in Atlanta, Georgia with his brother, Jimmy and a friend that produced video productions for large and small companies in Atlanta.
Fred enjoyed being outdoors with his sons and led numerous trips for his sons on Royal Ambassador trips with his church.
Fred spent the last year battling esophageal cancer with everything he had. Ultimately, he lost that battle to the sorrow of his wife, sons, and friends.
Visitation will be today, Saturday, December 30, 2017 from 1-2 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Chris Underwood officiating.
