Eva was a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and a friend to all who knew her. She was a lady who was loved by many and who gave her love to family and those she knew along with small children she took in to care for when they needed a home and someone to love and care for them.

For a period of ten years she and her husband, Robert, fostered 21 children with much love and care for each one. Eva, along with Robert, was influential in the building of homes for North Alabama Christian Children’s Homes and one of those homes shares their name.

She also was the person behind the scene for work for the NACCH annual trail ride held at their farm each year to raise funds for support of children in need of love and care. She shared not only her home and time for this but the love for these children and for her God, never complaining about the hours of labor and the interruption of her daily life. She was a member and supporter of the Shoals Area Horse Clubs and held the position of secretary many times. She was an excellent rider and shared her knowledge and love of horses with her children as well as with others.

An excellent seamstress, she enjoyed designing and making many beautiful dresses for her girls and also unusual costumes for those showing in competition with horses. She also knitted sweaters, scarves and many items for family, and her talent for smocking was special. All this, but her greatest gift was her love of family and friends she considered as family.

She and Robert enjoyed many trips with friends and family out West to ride Trails and enjoy life. She had many stories to tell of the great time spent with her friends.

A member of Florence Boulevard Church of Christ, she was a great worker in many areas of the church (Room in the Inn, Primetimer getaways, and always ready and willing to provide food for any occasion needed, and to visit those needing encouragement). Everyone looked forward to spending time with her and enjoying her special smile. She was a special friend to so many who loved her dearly, and she always was there to do whatever she could for whomever including rising early every morning to make biscuits for the family and having lunches ready for work and school. She was predeceased by her parents, Everett Glen and Eva Ailene Young; brother, Roy Young; and a great-grandchild.

This lovely lady leaves behind her husband, Robert D. Coats; sons, Ricky Coats, Anthony (Glenda) Coats, and Danny (Amy) Coats, all of Florence; and daughters, Tracey (David) Daisley, North Carolina, and Christy (Phillip) Risner, of Florence; brother, Bill Young; sister, Sarah Gifford; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was the example of Proverbs 31: “Who can find a virtuous wife...for her worth is far above rubies. Her children rise up and call her blessed...she watches over the ways of her household and does not eat bread of idleness...and her own works praise her in the gates.”

A special thank you to ECM nurses (sixth floor), Dr. Webb, Brandy Kress, Tiffany Romine, Lisa Chandler, Hospice of the Shoals, friends, and family.
