Donald Ferrel Harris, 67, of Florence, passed away July 7, 2017 at ECM Hospital after an extended illness. He was a member and Deacon of Forest Hills Baptist Church; a graduate of Bloomfield High School, Murray State University, and the University of North Alabama. He was retired after 35 years of service as an Educator with Florence City Schools; and he was the owner of H & H Construction.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 9, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Monday, July 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel with Brother Rich Hardeman officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
Mr. Harris was preceded in death by his father, Bill Harris; maternal grandparents, Arbie and Nola Douglas; paternal grandparents, Ernest and Minty Harris; father and mother-in-law, Sam and Margaret Belt; niece, Shawna Harris; and a sister-in-law, Judy Belt Singleton.
He is survived by his college sweetheart and wife of 46 years, Leta Elaine Belt Harris; son, Jeremy Don Harris; daughter, April Dawn Bearden (Dennis); grandchild who was his pride and joy, Paisley Dawn Harris; mother, Peggy Harris; and a brother, Larry Harris.
Active pallbearers will be: brothers-in-law, Percy Belt, Dave Belt, and Ronnie Watson, and nephews, Brian Belt, Scott Belt, and Eric Watson.
The Deacons of Forest Hills Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the North Alabama Cancer Center, and the 6th floor nurses and staff of ECM Hospital.
