Barbara Ann Felts

July 7, 1937 ~ October 4, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Barbara Ann Felts, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Oct. 4, 2017, following complications from a recent illness. Visitation is Saturday, October 07, 2017  from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home with the service at 1 p.m. at the funeral home chapel with Bro. Chris Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

 

Mrs. Felts was a longtime member of Highland Baptist Church in Florence and avid member of the church’s Keenagers Club. She was a retired civil servant who was employed by the U.S. Social Security Administration and Federal Aviation Administration. She also worked locally at Sears & Roebuck and for New York Life Insurance Co. She was a devoted military spouse whose travels took her from her hometown of Memphis to Jacksonville, Fla.; Long Beach, Calif; the Azores Islands; Norfolk, Va.; Columbia, Mo.; and finally settling in Florence in 1968.

 

Born in Mansfield, La., on July 7, 1937, she was the youngest of Gilbert and Lucille Bannister's three children. Mrs. Felts was a 1955 graduate of Central High School in Memphis and married her husband of 62 years, Jerry Felts, on March 19, 1955.

Mrs. Felts was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Richard Scott Felts; and sister, Clara Skelton.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jerry Felts, Sr.; daughter, Kimberly Bevis (Greg) of Decatur; son, Jerry Felts, Jr., of Madison; brother, John Bannister (Sarah) of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Katherine Bevis Robertson (Gary) of Madison; Benjamin Bevis of Decatur; Taylor Felts of Madison; great-grandson, Zayn; and her beloved great-grandpuppies, Gracie and Sadie.

Pallbearers are Benjamin Bevis, Greg Bevis, Michael Bevis, Jacob Copeland, Jim Gough, Art Mankin, Gary Robertson and Carl Ross. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Isom and Jim Owens.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at ECM Hospital’s Emergency Room and Intensive Care Unit for the extraordinary care and compassion they provided in Mrs. Felts’ final days. They also wish to thank her physicians, Dr. Ralph Aquadro, Dr. Hisham Ba’albaki and Dr. Edsel Holden, for the outstanding care they provided for many years.

In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Cramer Children’s Advocacy Center in Florence.
