John McDonald Obituary

John Thomas “Johnny” McDonald, 68, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2024, at North Alabama Medical Center after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Johnny is preceded in death by his parents Josephine “Jo” Roden and Dan McDonald; brother, Phillip McDonald; sister, Paula McDonald Crews; and children, Sonja Faith Springer and Jessica LeeAnn Davis.

He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Tammy Churchwell McDonald; sons, Jessy Staggs and Jeremy McDonald; sisters, Melissa Hipps (Michael), and Pam Jones (Willie).  Johnny, lovingly known at “Paw” had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren, but he was “Paw” to every child he encountered.

Johnny retired from the Lauderdale County Road Department and was a life-long member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV).

Johnny had a heart of a true servant and spent the majority of his life helping others.  He loved to cook and would ensure no one ever left his presence hungry. Johnny will be missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him.

There will be a private family memorial at a later date.
