Nell Marie (Cable) Ray

Nell Marie Smith Ray, 87, of Florence, passed away February 23, 2018 at her home. Nell was a faithful member of Highland Baptist Church where she sang in the Choir. She loved her church and all the members. She daily practiced her faith with devotion, kindness, and humility. Nell was retired from the Tennessee Valley Cigar and Candy Company where she worked as a bookkeeper. Our mother was a loving, sweet person who always sought out the best in everyone and life’s situations. Mother never met a stranger. She loved music and was a member of the Sweet Adelines singing group for many years. Mother was the rock and foundation of our family and was loved by everyone that met her. She was a very special woman with a sweet soul, and we were blessed to be her family.

Visitation will be Monday, February 26, 2018 from 11-1 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor John Brock officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.

Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband of 28 years, Arthur Floyd Smith, and Bill Ray, also a very loving husband of 4 years.

She is survived by her son, Gary Smith (Marla); and daughter, Cissy Smith Goodman; granddaughters, Stacy Aldridge (Anthony), Krystal Holden (Randy), Emily Dostie (Chris), and Caroline Gould (Bill); great-grandchildren, Brantley and Luke Holden, Leighton, Nell and Fitz Dostie,  and Thomas and Abigail Gould.

Pallbearers will be Randy Holden, Anthony Aldridge, Chris Dostie, Jackie Cabler, Charles Edward Cabler, and Leon Quillen.

The family would like to thank the kind and loving staff of Amedisys Hospice of Florence. We also want to thank Kim Parker and Stephanie Moore for their aid, kindness, and love which they showed to our mother every day. They all helped our mother complete her life’s journey.
