Melinda Williams, 57, of Killen, passed away on October 15, 2017 at UAB Hospital. Melinda attended Highland Baptist Church and was a member of Shoals Master Gardener. She was a loving wife, mother, and friend. She had crystal blue eyes and never met a stranger. She was an exceptional cook, seamstress, and photographer. Melinda went out of her way to make everyone feel included and special. She was extremely creative and turned everything she touched into a masterpiece. A true adventurer, Melinda loved to travel and led a never-ending search for a good bargain. Melinda was compassionate, genuine, and selfless and had an unwavering faith in God. When she became sick, she never asked "Why me?" Instead, she sought out what lesson she could learn from her diagnosis. Melinda was truly one-of-a-kind and was incredibly loved. We are all better people for having known her.
Visitation will be at Highland Baptist Church on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Baptist Church. Rev. Dr. John Brock and Rev. Chris Underwood will be officiating. The casket will be placed inside the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Greenview Memorial Park.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otis and Juanita Herston Youngblood.
Survivors include her spouse, Ricky Williams of Killen; daughters, Lauren Craig of Florence and Megan Williams of Baltimore, M.D.; brothers, DeWayne Youngblood (Jenny) of Florence and Mike Youngblood (Jeanne) of Decatur; aunt, Shirley Canerday (Don) of Sheffield and a host of nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the nursing staff on third west and CCU at ECM, and respiratory therapy, as well to Doctors Mitchell, Holden, Patel, and Matthews.
