Martha Barnett O’Bannon, 87, of Auburn, AL, passed away May 24, 2017. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Martha taught fourth grade at Forest Hills School for 28 years; she was well loved by her students. Many of her students maintained contact long after they left her classroom. She will be remembered as a gracious and elegant southern lady, who loved and was loved by her family and friends.
A graveside service will be Saturday, May 27, 2017 at 10 a.m. in Greenview Memorial Park with Father Andy Keyse officiating.
Mrs. O’Bannon was preceded in death by her parents, Walter “Jack” and Ruby Greenhaw; first husband, George Barnett, Jr.; second husband, A. Stewart O’Bannon, Jr.; and step-son, Stewart O’Bannon, III.
She is survived by her son, Robert Barnett; daughters, Leah Gehling (Bob), and Beth Nicol (John); step-son, Marcus O’Bannon (Christine), step-daughter, Becky O’Bannon; grandchildren, Chris Gehling, Erin Duke, David Nicol, Beth Wilson, Sean O’Bannon, Catherine Huber, Asa Huber, Marie Gammill, and Daniel Nicol; great-grandchildren, Lily Nicol, Ella Nicol, Genevieve Gammill, Henry Gammill, Avery Nicol, Luke Nicol, Graeson Duke, and Christopher Gehling; daughter-in-law, Sally O’Bannon; and close family friend, Roger Smith.
Active pallbearers will be Daniel Nicol, Kevin Gammill, Jeremy Duke, and Chris Gehling.
Jean-Paul Nicol , Bob Gehling , and Sean O’Bannon will serve as honorary pallbearers.
