Welcome to the memorial page for

Mahlon P. Taylor, Sr.

October 26, 1933 ~ July 24, 2015 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Mahlon Pipkin Taylor, Sr. was born on October 26, 1933 in Winona, MS. After a brief illness, on July 24, 2015, he departed to be with Christ, which is far better (Philippians 1:23). Mahlon was preceded in death by his father, Mose P. Taylor, mother, Ouida Campbell Taylor, and sister, Alice Ann Taylor, who died in infancy. Survivors include his wife, Sue Hassell Taylor, sons Ken (wife Lisa) Taylor of Florence and Mark (wife Ann) Taylor of Fort Worth, TX, and three granddaughters, Mary, Audrey, and Anna Ruth, also of Fort Worth.

Visitation will take place on Monday, July 27, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at the Highland Baptist Church Tuesday, July 28, at 2:00 p.m., where friends may call after 1 p.m., followed by interment at Greenview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Gerald Clark, Robert Wakefield, Don Threet, Tom Watson, David Wade, and Tom Edwards. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Highland Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Highland Baptist Church building fund, 219 Simpson Street, Florence, AL 35630, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Mahlon graduated from Charleston High School of Charleston, MS and Mississippi State University. After serving in the United States Armed Services he worked briefly with the Boy Scouts of America and then returned to MSU in order to complete a master’s degree in biology, which led to a career with TVA as an aquatic biologist that spanned three decades. Mahlon was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a faithful member of the Highland Baptist Church for 47 years, where he served as a deacon and regularly taught a Sunday morning Bible class. He loved gardening, MSU sports, trips to Gatlinburg, TN, and especially visits from his granddaughters. We grieve Mahlon’s passing temporarily in the light of God’s promise of resurrection and reunion.

For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice the archangel, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive will be caught together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore, encourage one another with these words. (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)
