Lois Jean Thompson Bartmess passed away December 19th at the age of 96.
Mrs. Bartmess was born in Omaha, Nebraska. She graduated from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln then moved to Texas to pursue a career. There she met and married Lewis C. Bartmess. They relocated to the Shoals in 1948.
Mrs. Bartmess was a homemaker, an avid bridge player, a talented piano player and artist, and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Lewis C. Bartmess.
She is survived by her sons, John Bartmess and wife, Beatrice, of Florence, Alabama, and Roger Ellis Bartmess and wife, Susan, of Ooltewah, Tennessee; daughter, Nancy Bartmess Burroughs and husband, Richard, of Atlanta, Georgia; grandchildren, Kimberly Ulett and husband, Glen, of Gold Coast, Australia, Jennifer Bartmess, of Zurich, Switzerland, Hadley Burroughs, of San Francisco, California, Stuart Bartmess, of London, England, Richard Burroughs IV, of San Francisco, California, and Ben Bartmess and Lewis Bartmess, both of Ooltewah, Tennessee; and great-grandchildren, Cora and Owen Ulett.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kennedy Douglas Center for the Arts, the Florence Lauderdale Public Library, or a charity of choice.
Special thanks is given to her loving caregivers and the staff of Brookdale in Florence, Alabama.
