John "J.B." Bell Harrison

Mr. John Bell “J.B.” Harrison, 77, of Tuscumbia, passed away on September 14, 2017. He was born October 13, 1939 in Florence and graduated from Coffee High School. Mr. Harrison served our country as a member of the National Guard, was a member of Valdosta Church of Christ, and in his later years attended Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ services at Mitchell Hollingsworth. He retired from Ford Motor Company after working at assembly plants in Sheffield, AL, Sharonville, OH, and Atlanta, GA after 30 loyal years of service. Returning to the Shoals area following retirement, he worked for several years for SunTrust Bank of Florence. He loved God, Alabama football, Louis L’Amour westerns, and listening to rock and roll, country, and bluegrass music on his record player. And what he loved most was taking care of his family, especially his mother, brother, and sisters after the sudden death of his father in 1957, and later his wife of 46 years.

Visitation will be at Greenview Funeral Home on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 12:00 Noon- 2:00 p.m. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. in Greenview Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herby G. Harrison, Sr. and Minnie Viola Cobb Harrison; sister, Doris (Bill) DeVaney; and four half-brothers and four half-sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Marcille (Cille) Thompson Harrison of Tuscumbia; daughter, Ginger Harrison (James) Walter of Arlington, VA; brother, Kenneth (Marion) Harrison of Carrollton, GA and Herby (Ann) Harrison of Florence; a sister, Margaret (Junior) Hall of Florence; and a host of extended family and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Steve Grissom, Harold Hall, Conner Hall, Duane Keener, Andrew Woods, and Benjamin Woods.
Junior Hall, Bill DeVaney, Jimmy Yarber, and Glenn Thompson will serve as honorary pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 300 Memphis, TN 38148-0552 or to Sherrod Avenue Church of Christ for services at Mitchell Hollingsworth at 1207 Sherrod Avenue, Florence, AL 35630.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mitchell Hollingsworth Nursing Center for taking such good care of J.B. and his wife as she sat by his side every day.
