John Thomas Wilkes, Jr., 84, of Florence, passed away May 19, 2015 at E.C.M. Hospital. He was a member of SCV, CCC, and the Church of Christ.
Visitation will be Friday, May 22, 2015 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, May 23, 2015 at Murphy’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church at 2 p.m. with David Dowdy and Jack Thomas officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.
Mr. Wilkes was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Dean Bevis Wilkes; parents, John and Effie Wilkes; sisters, Ruth Wilkes, Helen Reid, and Pauline Hart; brother, Howard Wilks.
He is survived by his wife, Edith Wilkes; daughters, Patsy Holt (Larry) of Florence, Sandra Crank (Bill) of Florida; grandchildren, David Holt (Bethany), Alison Howell (Greg), Todd Travis, Rusty Ward; great-grandchildren, Bella Howell, Alena Howell, Maela Holt, Kristen Ward; brother, Kenneth Wilkes (Garnet).
Active pallbearers will be Greg Howell, William Smith, Jon Griffin, David Holt, Rusty Ward, Sticker Dowdy, and Kenneth Wilkes.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends of Murphy’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, SCV members, CCC members; friends and neighbors of Rasch Road and Hospice of the Shoals.
