Jim Sargent Obituary

Jim Sargent was born in Nashville, Tennessee on April 1st, 1934 and passed away on February 11th, 2018 following a brief illness. Jim was a member of the Baptist church. He was a husband, brother, father, grandfather, and friend to everyone that had the pleasure of meeting him. Jim was a sharp-minded business man who worked hard to achieve success. His driven spirit and will to succeed while always staying humble was an inspiring quality that everyone he knew admired. His family was his most important priority. His life was full of memorable moments including being a helicopter pilot for over 20 years. He began his career in Mineral Wells, Texas followed by Chevron Oil in New Orleans. He then transferred to the Tennessee valley to fly for TVA (including lifting the Christmas tree for the White House). In 1968 Jim began a hobby collecting knives out of a cigar box. Little did he know this hobby would turn into a family business of 50 years, Sargent Company. During that time he was the president of the National Knife Collectors Assoc. for two terms. Jim and his wife also served on the board of directors for several years to follow. He is the author of several books including seven volumes of the "American Premium Guide of Knives and Razors." He is also known as a Case Ambassador for W.R. Case & Sons. He is preceded in death by his wife Jean Sargent, mother Lorene Sargent, father Jim W. Sargent Senior, and brother Joe Sargent. He is survived by his sister Martha Horton (Doug), children Cricket Cooke (Al), Jace Sargent (Debbi), Gina Smith (Chris), Rosa Darby, and four grandchildren; Hutson Sargent, Haley Sargent, Nicole Terrell (Bo), and Christopher Darby. A graveside service will be at 12:00 on Thursday, February 15th at Greenview Funeral Home, 3657 Old Chisholm Rd, followed by a "Celebration of Life" at Sweetwater Depot, 502 S Royal St from 1-7.Come join us for appetizers and shared memories of Jim Sargent.
